On menstruation and hygiene for young adolesence girls

These are sanitory napkins that the govenment has made available at a low cost

on dec 24th 2016 we spoke to young adolesence girls on menstruation and hygiene.These girls had a vague idea about menstruation .Knowledge source was mainly the peer group.The teacher or mother are inhibited to share this information with the girls. Sme girls thought that "huggies"(diaper used for babies) were to be used during menses. Disposal was a problem. Girls in teh rural remote areas use the cloth. Drying the cloth is an issue as its embarrasing for them. Plus when it is dried indoors there is no sunlight that reaches it . The sanitory napkins available in the market are expensive( about rs. 80 for 10 that the girls can ill afford)
The session was conducted in small groups with 10 grls in each. There wer no male members there. The girls were comfortable in small numbers. This is in Khed, an interior school in Raigadh district,near Karjat.Maharashtra India
